KCPW 88.3 is a public radio broadcaster that is licensed to Wasatch Public Media. The channel covers the boundaries of Salt Lake City, Utah. The allotted frequency of the station for the local broadcasting is 88.3 MHz on the FM dial; however, the audience from outside regions can also tune the channel on the web portal. The broadcaster offers programming from news and talk format and aims to keep local community updated about the latest domestic and international stories.
The channel officially went on-air on 1st November 1992 under the ownership of Communication Wireless. The current owner put a proposal to purchase the channel on 28th March 2008, and the deal was made in June of that year. Its contract with national public radio ended on 24th June 2013 but continued to air programs from American Public Media, Public Radio International, BBC, and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Currently, KCPW 88.3 not only offers simulcasted programming but also has various in-housed produced shows as well. The home studios of the station are based in Downtown Salt Lake City at Library Square, while transmitter, based in the Oquirrh Mountains, consumes power of 450 watts, not only to reach its global audience but also to serve around the clock.
